BESARBOVSKI ROCK MONSTARY

St Dimitar Besarbovski monastery is the only one active rock monastery in Bulgaria for men.

The monastery has been founded during the years of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, but its name has been mentioned for the first time in a turkish tax register in 1431.

The most renowned dweller of the monastery was St Dimitar Besarbovski, born the nearby village of Besarbovo, whose name has been metioned in "Istoriya Slavianobulgarsaia" by St Paisii of Hilendar.

The monastery is located in Northern Bulgaria, 10 km away from the city of Ruse and is well worth a visit.
